The park includes hilltop Grade 1 listed castle remains and the historic Newton House, surrounded by a National Nature Reserve and 18th century landscape Deer Park.

Red Kite Feeding Station

SA19 9YG (*10 mins)

Get up close to Red Kites feeding. Sit in specially built hides only feet away from these diving birds and observe them competing naturally for the food provided by the feeding centre.

Black Mountain Quarries Walk / Herbert’s Quarry & The Beacons Way

SA19 9PA (*5 mins)

Park at Mountain Road Car Park on Black Mountain and walk to the nearby historical landmark of Herbert’s Quarry. It is off the beaten track and unspoilt, and from here you can also pick up The Beacons Way.

Llyn y Fan Fach

SA19 9UN (*15 mins)

This 15.1km loop trail is rated as moderate and takes you up the mountain alongside a river with small pools, waterfalls, a lake and even a fish farm. A folklore legend also connects Llyn y Fan Fach is the myth of 'The lady of the lake'.

Carreg Cennen Castle

Old castle remains dating back to King Edward I with a gift shop and tea rooms onsite. The Brecon Beacons Way also runs past the castle so you can pick this up for a walk in the area.

The National Botanic Garden of Wales

With 400 acres for you to explore, the Nature Reserve is an enchanting mosaic of flower-rich meadows, evocative woodlands, waterfalls and cascades. Also, every Monday and Friday is Doggy Day, and the first weekend of each month.

A challenging and continously steep 4.9miles summit walk. Not for the faint-hearted but worth it for the panoramic views at the top.

The National Showcaves Centre for Wales

(Dan-yr-Ogof)

Dan yr Ogof is a 17-kilometre long cave system in south Wales, about 5 miles north of Ystradgynlais and 15 miles southwest of Brecon, in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Usk Reservoir

This 8.7km loop trail offers a chance to explore a lovely body of water as you follow  the edge of the reservoir enjoying scenic views of surrounding woodland landscape. In particular, the cross country drive there, offers you some breathtaking mountain views.

Henrhyd Falls

SA10 9PH (*40 mins)

Visit the highest waterfall in South Wales with a 90ft drop and take a wild swim in the plunge pool below. Scenes from a Batman film (The Dark Knight Rises) were shot here in 2012 and a handy car park is located several hundred metres away, from where you can take a short but steep walk to the waterfall.
